Desert Water Collectors    1995

Mitzpe Ramone, Israel 1995

A collaborative project with the Bedouin community in the Negev Desert, Israel. A dozen umbrellas are grouped up side down on the ground. Large stones hold them in place. At night the stones, warm from the desert sun, cause water from the cool night air to condense in the umbrellas, ready for morning collection. The original umbrella "sleeve" was sewn into each umbrella it to create a spigot. Its end is tied in a knot and untied to pour out the collected water.
